Burgundy’s Markets: flavours and traditions

Burgundy, our beautiful region, is as attractive to gourmets as its flagship products suggest: Charolais beef, Bresse poultry, blackcurrant, gingerbread, mustard...
It’s an invaluable gastronomic heritage, especially because it is brought to life and supported by our renowned chefs, as well as by the people of Burgundy themselves.
Whether you’re in charge of a professional oven or at the controls of a domestic cooker, what could be more natural than a local market to discover and enjoy the best products of our lands?

A different Market every day in Beaune, Santenay, Meursault, Nolay and Chagny

The Beaune region offers the opportunity to shop at market all week: from Beaune to Santenay via Meursault and Nolay, our generous land offers us a different market every day. Always held in the morning, markets usually operate from 8.00 to 13.00.
In addition to delicacies to eat, there is also clothing, household linen, decorative items, jewellery, small pieces of furniture...
From March to November, the Saturday market in Beaune is also accompanied by a flea and bric-a-brac market, where the interested come to "poke around" at will to unearth a rare or unusual item.

The markets take place in the rooms of the City Hall and on the forecourt on:

  • Fridays from 7 am to 1 pm: Food and Clothes Market.

Please note that the shop keepers organise the "Grande braderie des commerçants" (a jumble sale) at the end of July.
Trade fairs and funfairs:

  • 1st March

  • The Saint-Ladre fair: 1st September

Chagny Market: something special

In the south of the Beaune region, where the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise meet, Chagny’s Sunday market has a reputation for quality and tradition, rewarded by the label "Taste and know-how of Burgundy".
Every Sunday, local and regional customers descend on the town hall square, its arcades and surrounding streets, to submit to the friendly and delicious ritual of this authentic Burgundy market.
Among the best products of this weekly gastronomic festival are prominently displayed marbled ham, along with "judrus", typical Chagny products: large sausages weighing 2 to 3 pounds, long dried, which go well with the red wine of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune...

Not to mention the smaller producers of goat’s cheese and old-style breads, who always succeed in filling the baskets of fans of the local "mâchon vigneron"!
And if you’re saving your “mâchon” for tomorrow, why not settle for one of our country’s most prestigious restaurants? Just a few metres from the market, the chef of Lameloise, with its three Michelin stars, brings out the best in its local products and pays daily homage to French
cuisine...
